We never thought we’d shed a tear over fashion but it came close yesterday morning when we learned the news that designer Alexander McQueen was found dead Thursday morning at his London apartment. Reports are calling it suicide, citing his anguish over his mother’s recent death as well as the forthcoming anniversary of the death of British fashion editor Isabella Blow (who discovered McQueen in 1994 at Central Saint Martin) as his motivation. The designer was 40 years old.
How will this affect fashion week? That remains to be seen but so far McQueen’s Fall 2010 presentation for his lower priced line McQ in New York was cancelled and Anna Wintour was seen dashing out of the BCBG Fall 2010 show before the finale, perhaps after hearing the news.
