Help! What would an informal look look like? I am putting a portfolio together for modeling and when searching on the Internet I found different options and they vary.

Dear Josie,
When out and about on “go sees” to designers or potential clients, simple is best. You should wear clothing that accents your body without being overbearing. Skinny jeans and a plain t-shirt or tank top with a little motorcycle jacket on top have become model industry standards.
You want the first thing the client to look at is your face. That being said make sure you are well groomed, wear very light makeup, have clean hair and skin and bright eyes. Letting the client see your face and body shape is more important than what trendy outfit you are wearing.

I am in my early twenties going out with professional people in their early thirties (lawyers, etc), and normally when we go out for a night I will wear something tight and slinky. Where is the boundary between slutty, professional, and still sexy when I go out with them? Outfit suggestions would be nice!

Dear Kim,
There is definitely a boundary that needs to be maintained when hitting the town with colleagues. Even though you are not at the office, you still need to present yourself in a professional manner, but you can let loose a bit. Instead of wearing something tight and slinky to show off your features, use color and fabrics to make the best of what your mama gave you. Silk blouses are an excellent way to be sexy and sensual without revealing too much of yourself. Pair that with a pencil skirt, a great set of pumps and voilà, you’re straight off of the set of Mad Men à la Joan Holloway!

Hi, I am 25 years old and I own my own martial arts school. I need to look somewhat professional, but still comfortable running school errands and not to look like a teenager doing it. I desperately need some advice in my transition. I have no imagination either. I like an outfit when I see it, but I would never put it together myself.

Dear Lucie,
People often equate professional with uncomfortable, but that is a huge wardrobe myth. There are many comfortable yet professional looks and most of them, gasp! include jeans. Demin has hit the big leagues with a wide range of styles, washes and cuts that are not only comfortable but create a polished mature look. For your lifestyle needs we suggest the trouser or classic boot cut styles in a dark indigo wash. A crisp button up blouse is always a mature choice, casual yet professional look. But try pairing jeans with a fitted blazer and classic v-neck T for a modern more relaxed twist to the blazer. A great blazer easily transforms jeans and T into a sophisticated chic look. Guessing by your profession, we figured heels would not be in your everyday repertoire so try a ballet flat to complete your chic professional look.
Check out our Decoding Your Demin guide for more styles and brands.

Help! I am doing a big presentation later this week. I bought a new black skirt suit, with white lapels and cuffs. I want to wear burgundy pumps with the suit, what kind of hose do I wear????

Dear Inga,
Opaque tights are very popular these days, but they tend to dress down an outfit. Instead we would suggest a pair of sheer black nylons, they are quickly becoming the replacement for opaque tights. Or stick to a pair of nude nylons but be sure to select a shade close to your natural skin tone. These will work best with your burgundy shoes. Good luck with your presentation!
