I bought this black princess style dress for prom but I can’t decide what shoes to wear. Is it fashionably acceptable to wear gold pointed toe sling back sandals? Thank you!

Dear Ester,
Shoes can make or break an outfit, especially your prom look, something that will be immortalized for the years to come with all the photos that will be posted on Facebook, not to mention your parent's mantel. So no pressure when selecting your glass slippers. Shoes will help to solidify the tone of your prom look, whether you're going for a luxe romantic mood or an edgy punk-rock chic.
By the sounds of your email, the tone of your outfit will be girly and romantic. Pairing it with a sling-back sandal would add a more sophisticated element to this look which could be an interesting change from the typical strappy sandal so often paired with princess style dresses. However, you also want to stay on trend while remaining age-appropriate and with a pointed toe sling back sandal, you run the risk of following in granny's footsteps. Our suggestion is to first determine the tone or theme of your prom look and then follow suit with your shoes and accessories. Stick to open toe shoes or something slighly more strappy than a pointy toe sandal for the ultimate romantic prom look.

I'm studying fashion and I am just curious about what you believe will be the trends for Fall 2009?

Dear Alicia,
We are still trying to wrap our heads around the multitude of trends we saw in the Fall 2009 collections of the past month. It is still too early to decisively state what the trends will be in for fall as it largely depends on what the buyers decide to stock their stores with. But some of the trends that we saw from the runways of the world are looks that are polished and professional with 1940’s inspired glamour, inspiration taken from menswear, a return to the 80's (again) with hints of fur, leathers and bright, bright colors! Stylehog.com will have full coverage of the Fall 2009 trends in the late summer months, so stay tuned!

I have a very blue denim zip up jacket (very stylish not like the old cow boy looking ones from when we were kids) and I do not know what pants to wear it with.

Dear Brittany,
According to the trendsetters of the world, the jean jacket is making a comeback. They were seen on the streets around Europe last summer, paired with anything from destroyed denim shorts to girly dresses. Knowing that the ladies in Europe are pulling out their old jean jackets makes us feel very assured that this summer we North American dames will most-likely do the same. We are excited to use it as a blazer or cardigan alternative pairing it with our frilly summer dresses.
In advising you to pair your jean jacket with pants we strongly caution against the taboo of jean on jean. However this spring we saw a wide variety of pants on the runways from safari cargos to Harem pants to pleated-front peg legs. Any of these styles would work perfectly with a jean jacket. Any color but denim blue will do, but black, olive green and khaki are the more common color variations we’ve seen paired with jean.

I have a pair of black anklet dress pants and a very pretty pink and grey and white and black flowered top. I bought a really cute pair of pink (same color as in the top) sandals. Is this ok?

Dear Cindy,
For a while it was not very fashionable to wear a matchy-matchy outfit. Fashionistas used their shoes and accessories to make a statement, making it hard for any fashion lover to keep up with the next “it” bag or shoe. But thankfully this spring we saw the demise of the “it” bag/ shoe leaving in its wake a more coordinated and matchy-matchy look for accessories, bags and shoes on the Spring 2009 runways.
You no longer have to be concerned if your outfit is too coordinated so feel free to wear your pink sandals with your pink floral top. To embrace this matchy-matchy trend pick up a pink clutch to complete this ensemble!
