I'm having horrid jean troubles! I have a very small waist, but a rather big butt for a girl that wears jeans in a size 0-4 (depending on the brand). I have a terrible time with gaping in the butt; when jeans fit in the thighs, I usually end up with a massive amount of space between my back and my jeans (too much space for a belt to help). I was wondering if you had any advice on finding jeans that will fit?

Dear Gwen,
Shopping for jeans can be trying even at the best of times so we feel your pain in your quest for jeans with the perfect fit. For someone with a small waist and curvy thighs looser cuts such as the very popular boyfriend, boot cut or flare with a mid rise are going to flatter your figure more so than tight skinny jeans. If you want a slimmer fit we would suggest a straight/cigarette leg in a dark denim with a mid to low rise.
The rise of the jean is important as it is what creates the gaping between your back and the jeans. If the rise is too low you risk exposing your butt crack but too high and the contouring might not fit correctly and thus gaping will occur. If you are having difficulty finding jeans that fit at stores such as H&M, the GAP (although the GAP has just come out with a new specialty denim range for Fall so it might be worth it to take another look there) and Urban Outfitters, try denim specialty stores, such as Over the Rainbow and TNT Blu in Toronto or Dutil Denim in Vancouver.
As for denim brands,
Levi's,Fidelity, J Brand and Citizen's of Humanity have an extensive selection of styles to choose from and have many different fits in slimmer cuts. The key here is that one style doesn't necessarily speak for the brand. Try on as many different styles of jeans as possible (even from the same brand) to find the right fit. Trust us, it's worth it.

What are the most flattering styles for small busted young women? Also, any help for
bra fittings, even double A cups, petite gap at the top. Thank you!

Dear Debbie,
Fit is one of the most important elements when choosing clothing and when it comes to bras this could not be more true. Get yourself professionally fitted. Just because you were fitted as a 34AA when you bought your first bra as a teenager does not mean that you will be the same size now. We recommend visiting a good lingerie store (like Secrets from Your Sister in Toronto or Scarlet in Vancouver) to get yourself fitted; it doesn't cost anything and can be a truly eye-opening experience (in a good way). Barring this the lingerie section in an upscale department store should be able to give you a decent fitting (ie. Holt Renfrew, Saks). A few lingerie companies who make wonderful, sexy and comfortable (yes, those are all possible to achieve in a one bra) lingerie that fits well on small busted women are: Elle Macpherson Intimates, Princess Tam Tam, Timpa lingerie and Blush lingerie. We must stress though that the proper fit is far more important than the bra, or who makes it. Women with smaller busts can indulge in a few luxuries that other, well-endowed, women cannot such as going bra-less. This means you can wear halter tops, plunging necklines and backless outfits with greater ease. Patterned and bright coloured tops will flatter your figure when paired with solid, darker coloured bottoms. Add volume to your torso with ruffled tops and bow blouses. Details and embellishments on your tops will help create the illusion of a larger bust and when paired with solid coloured bottoms they balance our your body.

Hi,
I am what people would consider "chubby". I'm about 5'8, but currently weigh about
190 (down from 205 and dropping). I was wondering if it is ok for chubby people to
wear tanktops (just regular ribbed tanks) that fit properly (meaning not too tight).
I am worried about my arms because while it is summer and tank tops would make my
life a whole lot easier, I don't want to burn out people's eye sockets because my
arms look scary when not covered with a elbow length top.
Any sort of advice would be really appreciated. If tank tops won't be suitable, then what other summer clothing can I wear without
making me look unflattering?

Dear Michelle,
First of all, congratulations on the weight loss! We are firm believers that the fit of a garment is one of the most important aspects when choosing clothes to wear. If you are comfortable in a ribbed tank top and it fits properly than by all means wear it proudly. The last time we checked a little skin has never been responsible for burning anyone's eye sockets. If you are worried about exposing your arms but still want the cooling effects of a sleeveless top we would recommend a top with substantial straps. Something with capped sleeves and an empire waist will look best on you. You may also want to try tops with scoop necks or v-necks.
