Is there an age limit to wearing leggings and the longer sweaters if you have the figure for it?

-Julie (Oct 5, 2009)

Dear Julie,

As far as leggings are concerned we live by the mantra, "Leggings are not pants." This goes for any age group. Having said that wearing leggings with longer sweaters and shirts (or shorter dresses) is perfectly acceptable, especially if your figure and comfort level allow for it. We say if you've got it, rock it!

Allow me to elaborate using examples. Legging-friendly looks like this and this can be chic and comfortable at any age.

Hi! Well as you know Halloween is coming up and I would like to buy my costume early. However, instead of buying a costume I've decided to be a cowgirl and use one of my own outfits with a couple of other things and that's where I need your help.

1) Where can I get chesnut/tan fringed boots for less because the ones I found are sooo expensive, any links???
2) Where can I find a cowgirl hat that's cheap but cute?
3) What makeup do you suggest and should I curl my hair or braid it into 2 braids?

-Monica (Sept 25, 2009)

Dear Monica,

Using items from your closet to transform into a Hallowe'en cowgirl is an awesome idea. We love that you're saving money by recycling your own clothes! And the cowgirl theme is so very Chanel Spring 2010.

As for your questions:

1) The best place for a cheap western-inspired boot is either:
a) vintage or second hand stores
b) Payless
c) Charlotte Russe

2) For an inexpensive cowboy hat try Tilly's (we found one for under $15)

3) As far as beauty tips we suggest a very fresh-faced look with a wild, tousled mane, a little bit like the look on the Chloe Spring 2010 runway. If you are feeling extra daring and want to amp-up the make-up for your costume we suggest drawing on a few Pippy Longstocking-esque freckles and adding a little extra blush to give that fresh-from-a-hay-ride glow.

As for the hair, as we said before, a tousled mane is pretty hot but we also like the messy side-braid or pigtail braids. We hope that this helps you with your style dilemma. We are sure you will look super cute and chic in your cowgirl costume. Happy Halloween!

I am wearing a navy blue cocktail dress to a wedding in the fall. What style/color of shoe would look best? I have strappy silver sandals but I'm afraid those might look too summery for a fall wedding. I don't want to wear navy shoes because I don't want to look like a bridesmaid! Could I wear a black stain pump, black wrap (in the church), and a black clutch? I have heard recently that navy with black is very "now". Or would a dark grey (pewter) satin pump look better?

-Caroline (Sept 23, 2009)

Dear Caroline,

We agree that a navy dress with navy shoes is more bridesmaid, less wedding guest. We agree with your statement that navy with black is very "now". We highly recommend pairing your navy dress with black accessories but make sure the accessories have a little bling or sparkle so that they stand out against the navy. For example, a great statement necklace is a must as well as a stunning pair of party pumps like the black zipper pumps shown here. While a pewter pair of pumps would look good, if you can only wear them with this one outfit, it's not worth it! Before you make any purchase it's best to think about how many outfits you can wear it with. If you can work it back to more than two, then buy it! If not, leave them at the store.

My husband and I are attending my 30 yr high school reunion. This is the first time that I have attended my reunion since high school. What should I wear? It's s small gathering inside a small hotel room.

-Deb (Sept 21, 2009)

Dear Deb,

High school reunions can be a great time but getting ready for one can also be a little nerve-racking. When in doubt we always say go for black. A chic LBD (aka: little black dress) is always in style and always flattering. If you want to add some oomph to your LBD, pair it with a Chanel-inspired tweed jacket (you can find ones at Club Monaco, Zara and H&M) and a fun pair of party shoes (since you're wearing all black you should add a little pizzazz in your footwear).

If you want something a little more glamorous try pairing a jeweled velvet jacket (velvet was all over the Fall 2009 runways), black and gold high-heeled cut-out sandals and a pair of dangly earrings (all pictured here).

We know you'll look great at your reunion and we hope you have a great time!
