Last week was the unofficial start of summer and along with the warmer weather, sunnier skies and longer days is the need to lighten up. Heavy creams, heady fragrances and full-coverage foundations just seem too suffocating when the sun’s shining and a breezy maxi is the only comfortable item to wear while navigating the humid city streets. So, along with spritzing a fresher version of your favourite perfume, going oil-free and swapping foundation for tinted moisturizer, it’s also an ideal time to lighten your locks. I’m not advocating Debbie Harry bleached-out blonde (although the original punk pop queen can definitely pull it off), but rather a few subtle, face-framing highlights which can do wonders for brightening up a pallid, winter complexion. Here at the Stylehog.com offices, talk of ‘blonding’ has been increasing since the calendar flipped to June. But since going blonde from brown takes a lot of work it’s essential you don’t let the summer sun bleach out those perfectly honied strands –or for that matter, a gorgeously glossy chestnut mane as it’s all too easily moused-out by potent UV
rays.
