Notes from the Powder Room: Tips from Stylehog's Beauty Editor Malena HarbersMay 8, 2009 - Makeup Gone Wild

What’s worse is that our hair has no self-healing mechanisms. So once it’s damaged by the sun it’s virtually impossible to get the hair back to optimum health. Enter serious colour care. The peachy fragrance of L’Oréal’s Professionnel Solar Sublime Fortifying Protective Cream ($22), out next month, is almost as good as its protective and repairing properties. Slather a hefty amount of the cream over your hair before being exposed to the sun (don’t worry, it soaks in and doesn’t leave you looking like an oil-slick).

Pureology’s Essential Repair Line, also out in July, includes an antifade complex in the botanical-based formula. Potent antioxidants and full spectrum UVA and UVB sunscreens mix with soymilk to repair damage done, while olive oil instantly softens the hair shaft. Free of sulfates and salts that can all also strip colour from the hair, the line’s Essential Repair Colour Max ($26.60, 250ml) works like an invisible hat to block rays. If that’s not enough to get you spritzing, the line uses vegan ingredients only housed in organic bottles to boot. arrow
