Best Dressed Celebs at the 2010 Oscars

“Safe” is the one word that is typically used to describe the red carpet at the Oscars and while there definitely were some safe style choices this year, there were an equal number of dresses that stood out from the sea of “safe” black and red gowns.  So instead of focusing on the safe yet still gorgeous sartorial choices of the night (Sandra Bullock in Marchesa that we loved, loved, loved; Carey Mulligan in sparkly black Prada; or Anna Kendrick in a very feminine Elie Saab Haute Couture number), we’re turning to the ladies who chose to step outside of the style box for this week’s best dressed of the 2010 Oscar Awards…

1) Maggie Gyllenhaal – If we had to give a silver medal to this year’s second best dressed at the Oscars we would have to give it to Maggie Gyllenhaal in this amazing blue printed Dries Van Noten dress.  Not only does it look perfect on, it goes perfectly well with her quirky personality.

2) Demi Moore – We’re not even going to get started on how young Demi Moore looks.  Instead we’ll focus exclusively on her ruffle bottom Atelier Versace gown.  This is a look we saw a few times last night – major volume on the bottom with a train in the back and slightly shorter hem in the front – perfect for getting a glimpse at her matching Versace shoes!

3) Sarah Jessica Parker (BEST DRESSED) – Oh SJP, can you ever get it wrong?  We doubt it! Last night’s lemon yellow Chanel Haute Couture dress was by far our favorite of the night.  Her exaggerated bun and stacked Fred Leighton jeweled bangles only made this look even more perfect.

4) Diane Kruger - Another leading lady who always kills in Chanel is Diane Kruger.  Her sweet and disarming Chanel Haute Couture halter dress looked just as nice from the back as the front!

5) Zoe Saldana – We know we might get some slack over selecting Zoe Saldanda’s Givenchy Haute Couture gown as one of our favorites, but too bad!  We love it despite what some might say.  We love, love, love the mix of materials (sequins on top, ruffles on the bottom) and never before have we seen purple ombre look so fabulous off the runway!

What's funny is I couldn't stand SJP (satin condom), Demi Moore (colour washed her out, bottom was unflattering) or Zoe Saldana's (the blocking on the top was all weird and made her torso look too long and the deep front slit was confusing) dresses
