Rumour Mill: Top Shop NYC Opening Date Leaked (Again)

The grand opening of Topshop’s NYC is like moving into a unit in a newly constructed condo building: the move-in date is constantly push backed further and further until we want to rip our beautifully coiffed hair out! Although we were excited to report last year that Topshop was finally coming to our side of the pond, now frustration has set in due to delays in construction. First it was September, then it was October. Now it is being reported that doors to the Broadway and Broome flagship will open March 26th at 9am. Just like our new condo, we just want to check it out and move on with our lives knowing that affordable fashions are within our reach. Lets hope this proposed opening date is the real deal, leaving our hair in tact.

For those of you living in Canada, rumours are also flying that HBC’s new CEO Bonnie Brooks will also bring the famed Brit retailer to our side of the border. Our fingers are crossed tightly on that one!

Fashion Flick: Save a horse, ride a cowboy this spring

When we first watched the spring shows back in September, we too noticed the few pieces of fringe and smatterings of Western-style apparel that appeared on the runways.  Thanks to designers like Alessandro Dell’Acqua, Hermes, Givenchy and Ralph Lauren whose Spring 2009 runway collections featured a range of fringe, leather chaps, vests and cowboyish hats, it’s actually fashionable to walk out the door this spring in stampede attire.

While we realize this bit of trend advice is hard to swallow (we nearly chocked at the thought of sporting cowboy gear),  watch the video above courtesy of Elle UK for further evidence.  Yee-haw!

theOutnet.com to Revolutionize Outlet Shopping

It’s common knowledge that we (and all slaves to fashion) are in love with Net-a-Porter.com.  It’s not just the designer fashions that have us swooning; it’s the presentation and editorial style of the site that have us checking back on a daily basis even though we can only ever afford what’s on sale.

That’s why we nearly fainted when we heard about the soon-to-launch theOutnet.com.  Created by Natalie Massenet, the genius behind Net-a-Porter.com, The Outnet is “an off-price outlet for Net-a-Porter” that is scheduled to launch Febuary 2009.  Since Ms. Massenet has kept pretty quiet about the details of the site, we can only imagine it will have the same visual and literary appeal as Net-a-Porter.  We hope the site will also come with a weekly style magazine in the same manner as “NOTES”, and if so, can we be the editors?

Anna Wintour cannot catch a break

It seems 2009 is already turning out to be a bad year for Anna Wintour.  Just days after Cathy Horyn of The New York Times wrote a scathing article on the shortcomings of American Vogue,  Anna Wintour topped Time magazine’s fashion faux pas list for 2008.  Claiming Anna looks like “she’s encrusted with ammonoid fossils” in a Chanel Haute Couture gown at last year’s Met Costume Intitute Gala, Time’s author Belinda Luscombe came down hard on the editor-in-chief of Vogue.

Seeing this picture out of context, we can see why Time magazine would chastise Ms. Wintour, however considering the fact that the gala was “superhero” themed, we kind of think the dress is party-appropriate.

With all these negative reports and false takeover rumours, we starting to feel like there really is an evil plot to overthrow Anna Wintour from her throne at Vogue.

Color your world this New Years!

When you work in fashion, life can get pretty expensive, especially when you change your heels as often as you change your underwear!  That’s why this year, we’re giving ourselves the ultimate fashion challenge: to pump up the variety in our wardrobe without adding major debt to our credit cards. And the easiest way to reach our goal is to substitute our daily need for a new handbag with a daily change in eye color instead.

Although we’re thankful for the eye color our genes have bestowed upon us, every once in a while a girl needs a change, and thanks to websites like Lensshopper.com we can play with our biological makeup with just a click of a button. While shopping for the lowest prices in contact lenses, we can also test out different eye colors that perfectly suit our personal style with their Color Contacts Studio. And the best part is, even those with 20/20 vision can still have a ball shopping for a new eye color. Now, if only changing our hair color could be so affordable…

Kate Moss for Versace Spring 2009

Versace’s Spring 2009 ad campaign has been unveiled and we can’t get over how amazing Kate Moss looks in the spread.  While Gisele Bundchen is also featured in the ads (yeah, we decided not to show those ones),  Kate Moss really stands out as the star of the campaign.  With her sunkissed glow and beach babe hair, Kate actually looks….healthy.  That’s a first!
