Alessandro Dell’Acqua without the Dell’Acqua?

What happens to a label when its namesake’s creative control comes into question?  We’re about to find out.  Designer Alessandro Dell’Acqua is distancing himself from the latest Dell’Acqua collections citing a lack of creative control over the lines, according to Vogue UK.  Dell’Acqua, whose label is operated by Cherry Grove said to The Daily  “The brand which carries my name has always been consistent with my style but in this case, despite their formal assurance, Cherry Grove, decided to move forward without having me, the designer, check on the quality of the product. Because of this imposed inability to guarantee the quality of the final product and in order to protect the other licensees of the brand, I have to detach myself from these two collections that have not been approved by me and that I don’t acknowledge as realization of my creations.”  And by two collections, Dell’Acqua is referring to his men’s spring/summer 2010 line and women’s pre-spring 2010 collection.  Does this rift mean Dell’Acqua may be leaving his own label?  We hope not but only time will tell!
