I have a post primary election victory party invitation from the  congressional incumbant and I don’t know how to dress or what type  of clothes to wear to this event. Work clothes? Evening clothes? Please help.

 I am getting married on Memorial Day and I will be wearing a navy suit with a silver tie and a pink boutonniere. My fiancee will be  wearing an ivory vintage dress. Her bridesmaids are wearing  silver/gray. The wedding’s feel will be elegant but summery and laid back. What color shoes should I wear? I don’t want  to distract from the wedding’s color scheme, so I worry about wearing a brown shoe. Also, if you have particular shoes to recommend, I would welcome any suggestions.

If you want your footwear to compliment the wedding party’s colour palette we would recommend that you stick to basic black and stay away from browns or tans. Wear a pair of black full brogue dress shoes with your navy suit, silver tie and pink boutonniere.

Keep your legs neutral, this means one solid colour (no patterns or prints) if you want to accent bold patterned shoes. We find that black pants/leggings or black and nude stockings under a skirt or dress work best…To properly show off your heels you don’t want to wear something that is too loud and busy otherwise it will take attention away from the shoes (and it’s all about the shoes). If you still wanted to wear something eye-catching try a bright, solid color like this red sweetheart neck, bustier dress. You could top this off with a shaggy (faux) fur coat like this one inspired by Isabel Marant.
