“Safe” is the one word that is typically used to describe the red carpet at the Oscars and while there definitely were some safe style choices this year, there were an equal number of dresses that stood out from the sea of “safe” black and red gowns.  So instead of focusing on the safe yet still gorgeous sartorial choices of the night (Sandra Bullock in Marchesa that we loved, loved, loved; Carey Mulligan in sparkly black Prada; or Anna Kendrick in a very feminine Elie Saab Haute Couture number), we’re turning to the ladies who chose to step outside of the style box for this week’s best dressed of the 2010 Oscar Awards…

We don’t know if it’s the recession, the last minute schedule changes or the proximity to the Oscars, but it was hard to spot a Hollywood celebrity in the front row of any show during the Fall 2010 collections at Milan Fashion Week.  True, there were a few Hollywood starlets like Lindsay Lohan (she will never make our best dressed list no matter what she wears), Courtney Love (still too much of a mess) and Twilight’s Ashley Greene (although she looked cute enough, there was always something off about her outfit choices), but none of these girls truly warrant the title of best dressed celeb or even a front row seat for that matter.  That’s why we looked past the celebrity title and looked to see what Italy’s finest chose to wear while sitting front row.  Click to see why Margherita Missoni, Delfina Fendi and even Rachel Zoe made our list….

Between the BAFTAs, Fashion Week and the Elle Style Awards, London was the place to be this week for fashionistas looking to make their mark.  We looked high and low to find the five best dressed celebs of the week and we’ve got the who, the where and the what after the jump…

With so many fashionistas in New York City this week for fashion week, it wasn’t hard to make a list of best-dressed celebrities.  The hard part was narrowing it down to only five.   Should we pick models? Should we pick actresses? Should we pick reality tv stars? Should we pick designers themselves? We just couldn’t decide so we picked some from each category (we’re putting Victoria in the model/designer category since techincally she has done both, remember those Armani underwear ads?)
