Military Fashion at Marc Jacobs & Louis Vuitton Spring 2010

Weekly Hot Pick May 5, 2010 @ 9:02 am

Although we’ve already discussed the infamous military jacket of 2010 and the wave of khaki that hit the runways this season, we have yet to thoroughly examine how to properly wear the army trend that took over the runways at Marc Jacobs, Louis Vuitton, Rag & Bone, Jean Paul Gaultier, Balmain and about a gazillion other designers this spring.  The look was not head to toe combat (well, at Gaultier it was…), but instead a delicate balance between the macho feel of an army jacket mixed with the innocence of an eyelet frock and the femininity of a nipped in waist.  Click through to find out how we’re wearing military this spring.

Metamorphosis at Alexander McQueen Spring 2010

Weekly Hot Pick April 26, 2010 @ 9:40 am

Much has been written on some retailers’ decisions to knock off Alexander McQueen’s Spring 2010 collection so soon after his death.  Some call it tacky and poorly timed.  We on the other hand think it reflects McQueen’s ongoing relevance in the fashion world even after he has passed on.  So we were happy to see brands like Zara and Topshop take a stab at interpreting Alexander McQueen’s “Plato’s Atlantis” spring 2010 collection.  No creepy crawler, amphibian or larva was left untouched by either McQueen or the high streets.   We think the metamorphical look is bang on with the changing of the seasons and hope you do too!  Click through to see our top picks.

Graphic Prints at Givenchy and Jason Wu Spring 2010

Weekly Hot Pick April 8, 2010 @ 8:09 am

We can’t help but wonder how Givenchy designer Riccardo Tisci’s eyes didn’t bleed when he was putting together his Spring 2010 collection.  The black and white graphic prints are so psychedelic, we get high just by looking at them.  But that didn’t stop him or designers like Jason Wu and Nicolas Ghesquière of Balenciaga from turning to ink blots and zig zagging patterns to complete their spring lines.  And even though we may need special glasses to look directly at their prints, we’re so thrilled with the look that we couldn’t help but track down more affordable versions of their kaleidoscopic prints.  Click through to see what we found.

Denim on Denim for Spring 2010

Weekly Hot Pick April 1, 2010 @ 11:39 am

\

Why is it that whenever we see folks on the street sporting denim-on-denim, we roll our eyes and mutter under our breath “Nice Canadian tuxedo!”, but when Chloe, Ralph Lauren and D&G do it for Spring 2010, we suddenly see the look in a whole new light? That’s the magic of designers and their stylists.  Worn the right way, even a Canadian tuxedo can look amazing.  The trick – break it up with a piece of brown leather and
