We can’t stop starring at the Black Swan poster, can you? Natalie’s eyes are mesmerizing (and we don’t mean the red irises). Here’s how to translate Natalie’s Black Swan eyes for real life according to Black Swan Makeup Department Head Margie Durand and Makeup Designer Judy Chin: use M•A•C Chromaline in Black Black ($16.50) to line the eyes into a black wingtip. Next use M•A•C Pigment in Silver ($19.50) combined with Mixing Medium and apply feathery brushstrokes over the eyelid. Rim the waterline with black liner and top it off with full, feathery false eyelashes.

No matter how much we condition our hair, it still looks extra dry and frizzy in the winter. Our solution: dry hair oil. Try Kiehl’s Superbly Restorative Argan Dry Oil ($30) or Serge Normant’s Meta Sheer Dry Oil Finishing Spray ($24) to smooth split ends and restore some life back into our dull, dry locks. PS: Julia Roberts, Sarah Jessica Parker and a slew of other Hollywood beauties swear by Serge Normant’s goodies.

Not getting enough fruit in your diet? Turn to your clothes for your daily shot of vitamins! Forget your typical French manicure! As seen at Vena Cava Spring 2011, we’re doing the half-moon manicure in interesting shades like black on the moon and taupe on the nail. We’re using Orly’s Half Moon White Tip Guides ($4.50) to ensure precise application.

Did you know that in addition to dry skin & chapped lips, cold weather also leads to dehydrated and brittle eyelashes? When eyelashes aren’t hydrated, they become weak and fall out, however, a conditioner like neuLash will instantly hydrate lashes, bringing them back to life, even in cold weather! Warning: this stuff isn’t cheap ($150 for a 4 month supply) so be prepared to spend for healthy, fuller lashes.

Like most women, we spend a significant portion of our pay cheque on shoes but our heels are constantly getting damaged whenever we drive. While pressing our foot on the brake and gas pedal, the back of our heel rubs against the car mat, causing marks and scuffs. We’re saving our soles with Shoe Angels, a clear adhesive that you place on the back of the shoe and bottom of the heel while driving that protects your heels from unslightly scuffs. When you arrive at your destination, just peel off and place back in the case for next time.

Shearling is the pelt of choice for Fall 2010. Burberry, Celine, Derek Lam and even Topshop turned their jackets inside out with their own version of the shearling coat for fall. Leather is still all the rage for spring, but it’s not the tough, rock n’ roll leather of seasons past. If you’re like us, your sensitive skin is acting up thanks to the winter weather. One way to minimize irritation: look for products that are listed as “frangrance-free”. This usually means that no scents were added to the product, as opposed to “unscented” which means a masking agent may have been used. Fragrance can be a major cause of skin irritation.

We’re halfway through winter and our favorite black leather boots are looking pretty sad. Instead of doling out the dough to buy a new pair so late in the season, we’re making some minor improvements. Take your boots to your favorite shoe cobbler and have them put on a new heel (even though our boots are flat, we still wear down the heel on one side). While you’re there, ask them to give them a good, professional polish. You’ll be amazed how new those boots will look!

Is your mascara always clumping? Follow these three steps for clump-free lashes: 1) Wiggle the wand left to right at the base of your lashes (more mascara at the roots equals longer looking lashes). 2) Pull the wand up and through the lashes while continuing to wiggle. 3) Close your eye and place the wand on top of lashes at the base and pull through to remove any clumps. This last step is critcal!

The hair do of the season is one giant messy side braid as seen at Alexander Wang Spring 2010. Don’t have the length or can’t braid one yourself? Ask your hair stylist for a braid extension.
line
We’re loving the floor sweeping lengths of this season’s skirts and dresses but what to wear over top? A jacket that falls at the hip looks best, whether it’s a cropped blazer or chic biker jacket. The contrast between the length of the skirt and the abrupt stop to the jacket is the best look around!
line
Another favorite jacket silhouette for Spring 2010 is the trench. Shown at Burberry, Dior, Max 03/a and Chloe, the classic trench is a must-have basic for this season and every season to follow. Make sure to look for one that incorporates the proper anatomy of a trench – a storm patch, a matching belt, sleeve loops and double breasting.

This spring, we’re giving our motorcycle jacket the boot and investing in the jacket of the season – the utility jacket. Part band, part military, the utility jacket is the style on everyone’s lips and in everyone’s closet for Spring 2010.

This spring, we’re hanging up our clutch and hobo bag in favor of a darling drawstring pouch inspired by Prada, Marc Jacobs and Diane von Furstenberg. Instead of buying new, we’re raiding our mother’s closet for her originals from the 90′s.

We’ve often referred to denim-on-denim as the Canadian Tuxedo, but this spring we’re embracing the trend seen on the runways of Chloe and D&G, so long as it’s done the right way. First make sure you mix two different shades (i.e. darker wash jeans with a light wash shirt) and always break up the look with a leather belt and/or leather handbag.

With Valentine’s Day just a month away, retailers are flooding their floors with pretty pieces of lingerie. We say forget saving it for that special someone and take a page from the Spring 2010 runways of Marc Jacobs, Joe Fresh and Christian Dior – wear your underwear as outwear. Pick up a few pieces of lingerie that will look as good on the outside as they do underneath.

For perfectly curled eyelashes all day long, apply a little heat to your eyelash curler. Simply use your hair dryer to blow a few seconds of heat on your metal eyelasher curler before you apply and viola, instantly curled lashes that are guaranteed to stay curled longer. Word of warning: don’t blow dry for too long or you risk burning your lashes!

This spring we’re ditching our standard grey, black and purple nail polish in exchange for some easter-egg hues inspired by the Spring 2010 runways of Zac Posen, where pastel pinks reigned supreme; Rag & Bone, where lemony yellows glistened from the models’ nails and of course the man who started the trend last season, Chanel’s jade green nails at their fall collection.

Combat hair static with a few tricks. Grab a dryer sheet and gently run it over your hair to remove static instantaneously. Or try to prevent static before it starts by applying a deep conditioner after you shampoo (static is caused by dry hair) or weigh your hair down with an extra dollop of styling product, like mousse or gel.

Food for thought: blueberries aren’t the only beauty-friendly food. Wild salmon is a great source of omega-3 fatty acids and cell-repairing protein which means your skin is more radiant (as well as wrinkle-free). Beans and lentils also should be on your menu because they’re low-glycemic (i.e. your blood sugar remains stable) meaning they prevent blemishes as well as dull, sagging, wrinkled skin.

Thought bold colored lips were just a fall/winter makeup sensation? Think again. Megawatt lips were all over the Spring2010 runways so go ahead and paint on some color (we’re partial to the violet pouts seen at Bottega Veneta and the tangerine gloss at Prada).
