Friday Night Brights

Growing up in the 80's, shockingly bright colors and various shades of neon were pretty customary wardrobe choices for the general population. Except for us. Our mother was adamant that she wouldn't let the neon trend infiltrate her household, so while other kids were outside playing in their hot pink shorts and fluorescent yellow sneakers, we were sitting pretty in our blindingly white Keds and denim overalls. If we were to believe Freud's theory of child development, we have our mother to blame for our fascination with all things (including fashion) bright and colorful.

Lucky for us, designers have brought back the flashy colors of the 1980's as witnessed by the runways of Spring 2009. From hot pink and orange at Alexander Wang to bright yellows, oranges and magentas at DKNY and Lanvin, we finally get to experience what it's like to channel a box of Crayolas thanks to this secondcoming of color. We wonder if our mother would approve....
