Gone Country
We think the word "country" has gotten a bad rap. We can't speak for all city dwellers, but when we hear the word country, images of cowboy hats, Billy Ray Cyrus and Nascar racing automatically spring to mind. We forget that "country" doesn't necessarily mean "western" but it can also refer to quaint log cabins in upstate New York, afternoons spent duck hunting and early mornings in the stables. Not that we have ever actually experienced these "country" activities, but thanks to Hollywood we can imagine how one might spend a picturesque day in the country. And thanks to designers this fall, we now know how to bring some of that country life into our city closet.
Using tweed, plaid, herringbone and fur to express the ideal country wardrobe, designers such as Carolina Herrera, Dolce & Gabbana, Karen Walker and DKNY showed us city folk there's more to the country than fresh air and horrible cell phone reception.
