WHAT: Somewhere in between the bold shoulders of the 1980's and the cinched waists of the 1940s, another decade crept onto the runway of Fall 2009. The 1990's grunge look came back with a vengance at Dsquared2, Diesel Black Gold, Charlotte Ronson and Twenty 8 Twelve. Tough leather pieces mixed with slouchy plaid, frayed denim and kick ass combat boots had us feeling the Courtney Love/Kurt Cobain vibe while eyes lined and smudged with the darkest of cream shadows had us remembering our first attempts at mastering the grunge look - however this time around our teacher won't mistake our kohl-lined eyes as evidence of a schoolyard brawl.
WHO: The grunge look has the been the style of choice for most off-duty models including Alice Dellal and Erin Wasson, the model-turned designer responsible for RVCA's new grunge loving Fall 2009 collection. The Olsen twins have made this look infamous thanks to their oversized stylings and homeless-chic aesthetics.
BEST BUY: We're loving Makeup Forever's Aqua Black Waterproof Cream Eye Shadow ($22). Not only does it glide on easily, but its creamy texture creates that perfect sultry eye. We use it in place of our regular liner when we want to craft the ultimate grunge look.
TIP: We're digging through our high school wardrobe (stored safely in our parent's basement thanks to our mom!) in order to unearth our black Doc Marten boots. Why buy a new pair when vintage is so much better?
