Matchy, Matchy
After years of fashion editors, designers and our own internal monologue telling us how not to match our belts to our shoes nor our shoes to our handbags, it seems the times they are a- changin'! Spring 2009 is all about playing the matching game by crafting perfectly coordinated looks starting with our accessories. From completely nude at Stella McCartney, full-on florals at Diane Von Furstenburg, wood embellishments at Marni, totally turquoise at Blumarine, pulled- together python at Elie Tahari and brilliant brights at Andrew Gn, the runways were awash with matching shoes, clutches and jewelry!
What does this mean for the average girl's wardrobe? A lot of careful planning! While it's not always easy to find a clutch in the same python pattern as your heels, it's best to start by looking for the same brand in both. That way you can guarantee the patterns match. Or let the "trompe de l'oeil" effect work in your favor by never placing your accessories too close together, this way you maintain the illusion that they're a perfect match. And when money is a little tight, convince your best friend to chip in. That way you can each own one piece of a matching set and like good best friends, you'll be eager to share!
