Earn Your Stripes
It wouldn't be spring without a transitional stripe or two
We usually recognize the emergence of spring by our sudden urge to abondan our entire fall wardrobe and replace it with gladiator sandals, frocks in neon shades of pink and orange, and the latest sunglasses from Tom Ford . This desire to overhaul our closet is usually spurred by a combination of the spring runway reviews in Elle and Vogue (we're suckers for a good editorial) and our general disgust with all things reminiscent of winter. However, since there's still a foot of snow on the ground we must temporarily put our dreams of one-pieces and Phillip Lim's new line of accessories on hold and attempt to dress season appropriate. The best way to accomplish this feat? Dress in stripes. Every season without fail designers are sure to include a stripe or two in their spring collection for the exact reason we described above: transition. Whether nautical, vertical, horizontal or diagonal, we consider stripes to be the ultimate transitional piece. They allow us to feel a glimmer of what lies ahead in spring's eagerly-awaited reign, while keeping us grounded in weather appropriate attire.
