Fanny Packs
Round 2, minus the cheese
We can hear the groans already, fanny packs for real? Just the mention of the words immediately evokes images of keen, middle-aged dads on family vacation fully equipped with black vinyl fanny pack, "LA Gear" scrawled in offensive, day-glo lettering. While these images are only natural for such an often-mocked accessory, designers like Alice Roi and Phillip Lim 3.1 did away with these old-fashioned stereo-types with only a few sashays down the runway. Newly outfitted in leather and suede, the fanny pack of 2007 has undergone a drastic makeover for the better. Nowadays, the term "belt bag" is a more appropriate name to give this hands-free purse alternative. Already a favorite of festival and concert goers the world around, the belt bag is riding on the unfaltering popularity of the belt itself. So what do you say ladies, will you give the fanny pack another try? This time we promise you won't look back at photos from the summer of 2007 and cringe (that is, unless you dig up Dad's old "LA Gear" number).
