Surfin' Safari

At times it seems fashion is all about endless consumption. Between buying the latest "it" bag (now considered a fashion faux pas for 2009) and hunting down a new pair of platforms to go with that new pair of harem pants, it seems all we do is buy, buy, buy. But more times than not, fashion is all actually all about recycling. Trends are recycled every season and for you dear consumers, this means taking what you already bought the first time around and adding a few new pieces to make the trend revelant for the current season. This also means less cash in your closet and more in your wallet!

Take for example the safari trend. Spotted all over last spring's runways, the safari trend is as popular (if not more popular) this spring than last. Designers like Gucci, Ralph Lauren, Donna Karen, Oscar de la Renta and Diane von Furstenberg all sent safari ensembles down their Spring 2009 runways in slighly more updated, more luxurious forms than last year. Between safari jackets and python purses at Gucci to khaki and gold Indiana Jones-style attire at Ralph Lauren, it was an urban safari on the Spring 2009 runways.

If you were a good fashionista, you would have stocked up on safari gear last spring and should only require a few new pieces of python and khaki to add to your wardrobe this spring. And for those of you who are just jumping on the trend now, don't worry about what you buy because you know you'll be seeing it again someday!
