That 70's Show
Can you dig it?
Growing up in the 80's and 90's, our only real exposure to the disco era came from reruns of Charlie's Angels and an unhealthy obsession with cult classic Dazed and Confused. In addition to learning that a combination of big hair and no bra is guaranteed to solve any crime and realizing that given the right line, even Matthew McConaughey can sound creepy ("That's what I love about these high school girls, man. I get older and they stay the same age"), we discovered that fashion in the 70's was dynomite (see definition #2 for clarification).
For Spring 2008, it looks like designers are trying to relive their Studio 54 glory days with the recent revival of wide-legged jeans at Chanel and D&G, platform sandals in almost every runway collection and patterned maxi dresses and kaftans at Stella McCartney, D&G, and Alexander McQueen to name a few. Selecting fashions from the better parts of the decade, the seventies trend of Spring 2008 is a little more retro-boho and a little less Disco Stu.
With this trend in mind, our mission for the summer is clear: Watch Dazed and Confused for the 39th time and buy as many long, flowy printed dresses as we can. While we may not have grown up in the seventies, there's no harm in dressing like we did.
