Frill me
With all eyes glued to the political circus that is unfolding in the US, it's hard even for us fashion folks not to have an opinion or two. However our opinions have less to do with universal healthcare or corporate tax cuts and more to do with what the wives of the presidential nominees are wearing on the campaign trail. While we admire Cindy McCain's Oscar de la Renta suits and Chanel watches, it's Michelle Obama's Thakoon-meets-H&M wardrobe that has us eagerly tuning in to every political event.

Known for mixing high with low and classics with trends, Michelle Obama solidified her fashionista status when she was recently seen in one of fall's hottest trends: ruffles: Sporting a ruffle front Maria Pinto blouse, Michelle Obama looked like she could have walked directly off the runway at Bill Blass, Moschino, Erdem or even Lanvin, where ruffles were all the rage for Fall 2008.

While we admit that watching a political rally just to critique the wardrobe choices of a potential First Lady is somewhat shallow (ok, really shallow), it seems we're not the only fashionistas taking part. Anna Wintour was spotted at Wednesday's presidential debate and it was reported that not only did she leave her big, black shades at home but she was actually smiling! That's more than we can say for her expression during fashion week.
