History will be made January 20th with the inauguration of president-elect Barack Obama and besides watching the events unfold on television, there are many others ways that you can commemorate this momentous day (and none of them involve a full color Obama portrait on a plate or a silver dollar coin). As it was with his campaign, American designers are doing their part to support Obama and now they have stepped up to help commemorate his inauguration by creating collectible items in a “Runway for Change Collection” which includes tote bags, t-shirts and scarves. Big time American designers want to help you own a piece of history. Diane von Furstenberg and Tory Burch have created tote bags; Zac Posen, Donna Karan, Juicy Couture, Narciso Rodriguez, Derek Lam, Rachel Roy, Gerald Matthews and House of Deréon have created T-shirts; and Alexander Wang has designed a scarf. With all this designer presidential memorabilia, the hot new trend for spring will be supporting your president!
The collection is available at the Presidential Inaugural Store at 625 E Street Northwest in Washington through Jan. 21. The collection will also be available at pic2009.inauguralcollectibles.com through February.
