Rumours are circulating that some big changes are in store for two designers and two fashion houses. First on the block, Haider Ackermann (whose stellar Fall 2009 collection had critics singing his praises) could be taking over Maison Martin Margiela (the original bold shoulder designer). Apparently Margiela has been disconnected from his own brand for months, claiming he is unhappy with the direction the label has gone since Diesel took over in 2002, leaving ample room for one Haider Ackermann to step in and take his place. When asked about the rumours, Ackermann would only say “When you meet the person you have admired for so many years, how can you possibly replace him? Sometimes it’s better never to meet your heroes.”
Fashion Week Daily is reporting that another fashion house may be in shake-up mode. Apparently Jean Paul Gaultier will be resigning from his role as Hermès Creative Director despite success both on and off the runway; critics love the brand as do shoppers - what other luxury brand reported a 12% increase in second quarter sales in this ecomony? By the sounds of it, this October’s collection in Paris will be Gaultier’s last for the brand.
