Scrimp, Spend, Splurge – Exotic Skin Handbags for Spring ’11

exotic skin handbags, spring summer 2011, crocodile, python, ostrich, katie holmes, sienna miller, mary-kate olsen, miu miu, prada, Valextra for Holmes & Yang, latest fashion trends

Just when we thought we had enough handbags (sorry, we could barely keep a straight face as we typed that line) we realized that while we have a ton of bags crafted from buttery soft leathers, we have yet to acquire a bag made from an exotic skin (real or faux) like croc, phython or ostrich.  This spring plenty of Hollywood’s best dressed have invested in luxe bags crafted from even more luxe materials.  Mary-Kate Olsen carried a red snakeskin Prada clutch to the CFDA Fashion Awards last month while Sienna Miller was spotted in London carrying a Spring 2011 Miu Miu ostrich leather hobo.  Katie Holmes also showed her affinity for exotic skins when she debuted her very own croc-embossed Valextra for Holmes & Yang  bag  from her fashion line with stylist Jeanne Yang.  Now it’s our turn to invest in something exotic for spring.  Whether real or faux, we’ll be adding something of the ostrich, python or croc variety to our expanding handbag collection this seaon.

Inspired by: Editor’s Fave Gucci Metallic Obi Belt for under $30

gucci, spring summer 2011, metallic, python, obi belt, tassels, latest fashion trends

There are certain runway collections that instantly become an editor and stylist’s favorite.  Gucci’s Spring/Summer 2011 collection is one of them.  As seen on the March 2011 cover of Elle, on the February 2011 cover of Vogue Paris and on the backs of celebs like J. Lo, Camilla Belle and Christine Teigen,  this is one collection that has definitely received more than its fair share of press (and rightfully so – it was stunning).  Have you noticed the one common item in all  of the pictures mentionned?  Gucci’s metallic python obi belt is the tie that binds all of these looks together and has been on our wish list since last fall when the collection showed in Milan.  But now we don’t have to wait until we’ve saved the required $990 it costs to buy Gucci’s version.  Thanks to ASOS we can have our very own metallic obi belt complete with tassels for only $26.90!  Talk about savings.

The Tribe Has Spoken – Tribal Jewellery is in for Spring

tribal necklace, tribal bracelet, tribal earrings, proenza schouler, spring 2011, ethnic, statement jewellery, tribal jewelry, latest fashion trends

Having just spent the weekend undergoing a massive spring cleaning of our closet, we doubt we need to add any more jewellery to our accessory drawer, which by the way, is still overflowing despite our Saturday clean.  But with every new season comes a new need to add a few accessories to the mix and for Spring/Summer 2011, our accessory of choice is anything tribal.  As seen at Proenza Schouler, Lanvin and Yves Saint Laurent, tribal statement jewellery in mixed mediums like metals, woods, gemstones, colourful beads and intricate threading is our new go-to accessory.

Click through to shop our 10 favorite pieces of tribal jewellery starting at $15!

Real Deal: We’re Blushing Over Nude Tones for Spring 2011

lace, blush, spring summer 2011, rebecca minkoff, python, silk, latest fashion trends

If yesterday’s post about brightly colored trousers wasn’t your thing, maybe today’s focus on soft blush tones is more up your alley.  We’ve had a thing for nude neutrals for several seasons now (you don’t want to know how many cream silk blouses we have stashed in our closet) so when we spotted this outfit on Rebecca Minkoff’s Spring/Summer 2011 runway, we knew we had to have some version of it.  While Rebecca’s prices arent’ too crazy (think $225 for those silk and leather shorts from the runway or around $300-$400 for a dress), we figured we could find a similar look but without spending more than $200 on any one item.  Our favorite find is by far H&M’s scalloped silk-like shorts that are in fact recycled polyester!  And while we would love to own Rebecca’s “Cali” purse ($725), we’re just as happy with Episode’s python leather purse for only $181.
