Midway through the summer we start to get a little bored with our seasonal attire. Suddenly our whites don’t seem as crisp, our tribal prints seem too loud and we struggle to come up with new colour blocking combos. It doesn’t help that all of the August magazine issues have arrived in our mailbox urging us to get a jump start on our fall wardrobe. How do we get over our our mid-summer hump? We turn to all things shiny, shimmery and silver! Taking inspiration from A.F Vandevorst and Gareth Pugh’s Spring/Summer 2011 runways (not to mention Herve Leger, Ralph Lauren and Dennis Basso’s), sparkly silvers are catching our eye and making a place for themselves amongst our summer attire. The best of the metals has to be Chanel’s Nail Vernis in Graphite, a smokey metallic tone from their Fall 2011 collection that we’re happy to apply regardless of the season!

Hot summer nights call for sunkissed skin, mojitos and anything white. Bonus points go to those who mimic Dolce & Gabbana’s head-to-toe white eyelet look from their Spring/Summer 2011 runway. We say nothing offsets a golden tan better than white, so why not wear as much of it as you can in one outfit? Regardless of how tempting it is to contrast your white on white with a pop of colour in your shoes or handbag, we say resist the urge and take a page out of D&G’s book and go for broke with an all white ensemble. Just be sure to stay away from the sangria that day!

We’ve been obsessed with our brightly coloured trousers all spring but now that summer has officially arrived the idea of wearing pants, jeans or anything past the knees in this scroching heat is just too unbearable. The solution: ditch the brightly coloured trousers and opt for brightly coloured shorts instead! Dior used them to embellish stilettos this spring while Gucci used them to fringe mini dresses. Alexander McQueen used them to build an entire gown while Chanel crafted a clutch out of them. The “them” that we are referring to? Feathers. Designers proved this season that birds of a feather really do flock together as one feather-adorned item after another was sent down the runway. The most wearable feathers were shown at Anna Sui. Her boho feather necklaces (worn long and loose or double wrapped as a choker) caught our eye and are the inspiration for today’s Runway Redux. We found a similar look for less with ASOS’ multi-coloured feather bib necklace ($43.10). Mixing metal feathers with the real McCoy this chocker is definitely not light as feather but it mimics Anna’s version perfectly!
