We never fully understood the "minimalism movement" that sprung up in interior design. When visiting friends who decorated their apartments in a minimalistic fashion, we always felt more like we were visiting a musuem than a 1 bedroom condo. The thought of actually sitting on their stark white sofa always had us regretting our decision to wear indigo denim.

That being said, we never gave too much consideration to the use of minimalism in fashion design. Sure, we're well aware that minimalism palyed a large role in the fashion trends of the late 90's, but at that time we were more concerned with fitting our history textbooks into our Eastpak backpack, so we fully missed the trend the first time around.

This fall, designers from Lanvin and Balenciaga to Francisco Costa at Calvin Klein lead the wave back to a simpler way of dressing, with clean lines, sculpted shapes and of course lots of black and white with just a dash of grey. For those days when winter florals, lace and plaid seem too overbearing, opt for a modern way of dressing and repeat the minimalist's mantra, "Less is more!"
