The results are in from this weekend’s holiday shopping tradition of Black Friday, and sales were strong overall (roughly 3% higher than last year!) but as The New York Times reports, bargains brought the shoppers into the stores but it may not be enough to boost struggling retailers.
The National Retail Federation spokeswoman Kathy Grannis said “It seems that not only did retailers do a good job of attracting shoppers but it seems that shoppers were also excited again to take part in the tradition of Black Friday weekend”.
But with so many retailers counting on the month of December to add a boost to their annual revenue, how will they survive when they’re offering sales from 50% to 70% off? We sense shrinking profit margins in their future and we almost feel bad gloating about the great deals we found…almost!
