Despite the many highs and lows of 2008 ( (Barak Obama's rise to power = high; the global economic crisis = low), the fashion world was optimistic in both 2008 and 2009 by enabling women to reach new heights...with their shoes!

So high were the heels that even a seasoned model took a tumble on the Prada Spring 2009 runway. Many designers featured sky-high platforms in the fall and carried them through to their spring collections, like the wooden platform peep-toe seen at Marni’s Fall 2008 collection which were updated into sandals as seen at Gucci’s Spring 2009 collection. Unlike the financial sector, everything from gladiators to t-straps got a raise and we found some super high (yet super affordable) platforms to keep us lifted all spring long!
