Totally Turquoise at Derek Lam, Versace and Thakoon Spring/Summer 2010

Weekly Hot Pick July 19, 2010 @ 7:15 am

Remember that scene in The Devil Wears Prada where Meryl Streep reams out a naive Anne Hathaway for foolishly dismissing the importance of a singular shade of color?  And remember how Meryl launches into a monologue on how a color makes it way down the runway one season and onto the store floor of mass retailers a few seasons later? Well for Spring/Summer 2010, the color cycle was on overdrive.  According to Derek Lam, Versace, Thakoon, the boys at Proenza Schouler and Pantone (the global authority on color), turquoise (or Pantone #15-5519) is the official color of Spring/Summer 2010.  Seen on almost every major runway show this season, turquoise has of course trickled its way down to the mass market and has infiltrated retailers everywhere.  We wonder what Meryl/Miranda would have to say about that.  Click through to find out our top turquoise picks for the summer.

Digital Prints for Less Inspired by Basso & Brooke and Alexander McQueen S/S 2010

Weekly Hot Pick July 9, 2010 @ 11:16 am

Tim Blanks said it best in 2009 when he referred to designers Bruno Basso and Christopher Brookes as “the Pixar of clothes”.  Sure, many other designers featured digital prints on their Spring 2010 runways (think Alexander McQueen, Elie Saab, Nathan Jenden and many more!) but design duo Basso & Brookes set the bar pretty high this season with their kaleidoscope of digital prints that have quickly become their signature style.  Lucky for us, digital prints also became a staple at many a fast fashion retailer this summer.  Click through to find out where you can get your hands on summer’s most vibrant prints.

The Real Deal – Burberry’s Mixed Metallics for Less

Runway Redux July 2, 2010 @ 9:38 am

For the last few seasons magazine editors, trend reports and stylists alike have been encouraging us to don sequins and metallics during the day whether we’re heading to the office or hitting up the grocery store.  And while we’ve flirted with the idea (we bought a velvet belt from Urban Outfitters last season that was sprinkled with a light dusting of sequins), we’ve pretty much kept our shine to a minimum between the hours of 9 to 5.  However, leave it up to Christopher Bailey’s Spring Summer 2010 collection for Burberry Prorsum to make us think twice about saving our metallics and sequins for after sunset.  His use of shiny metallics, sparkling sequins and trenches with sheen had us wondering why we were so hesitant to shimmer in the first place.  Click through to find out where to get Burberry’s mixed metallics whatever your budget.

Seventies Fashion & Hippie Chic Styles As Seen At Chloe and Altuzarra Spring/Summer 2010

Weekly Hot Pick June 25, 2010 @ 7:31 am

Stevie Nicks may have gone her own way but for Spring/Summer 2010, designers like Chloe, Altuzarra and Stella McCartney were definitely going her way with fashions inspired by the singer’s gypsy ways of the 1970s.  Ethereal, flowing dresses in silk and chiffon, fringe adorned accessories and clunky wooden clogs found a new home on the runways this season and we don’t know if it’s the summer heat or the festival vibe that’s hanging in the air but we can’t wait to channel our very own Stevie Nicks!  Click through to find seventies-inspired hippie fashion fit for Stevie herself.
