We’ve been raving about the Bay’s Queen Street makeover for months now but last night’s Fashion magazine party to launch their new contemporary space, aptly titled The White Space, proved to Toronto fashionista’s that the corner of Queen and Yonge is once again one very stylish address (despite what our poorly taken photo above might dictate). However minimalist the design might be, this 7,000 square foot area of the 3rd floor is packed with today’s hottest contemporary labels including McQ by Alexander McQueen, Sonia by Sonia Rykiel, Hanii Y, Halston Heritage (Sarah Jessica Parker’s latest fashion pet project), Tara Jarmon, LNA, Sandro, Beyond Vintage and too many more to list. In terms of pricing we like to think of The White Space as The Room’s little sister. While The Room next door boasts designer labels like Balmain and Proenza Schouler with several thousand dollar price tags to match, The White Space offers labels that you’d find online at Shopbop or Intermix with price points at an average of $400 a dress or $250 for a top. But back to last night’s party…
Amongst the pretty young things who attended the launch, models were sent out periodically styled in looks right off the floor. The models looked fabulous – their dancing was not (i.e. our photo above). Toronto fashionistas sipped their wine and pink cocktails while browsing the racks, oohing and aahing over all they saw while trying on pieces in The White Space’s plush new fitting rooms. We found the friendly sales staff to be extremely helpful last night, something the Bay is not usually known for but something we hope continues. Our goal last night was to find a dress for an event next week and while we didn’t find it yesterday (we’re not good at shopping in crowds), you can bet we’ll be back on the weekend to snatch up something pretty off the racks in The White Space.
