They Say That in the Army…Fall 2010′s Military Trend for Less!

They say that the army is based on a strict life of discipline and routine - two lifestyles not usually associated with the fashion industry.  However, judging by the recent fixation designers seem to have with military-inspired fashion (we can’t even think of the last season that didn’t incorporate army gear in one way or another), maybe they too are craving a dose of order and regimen.  Or maybe the army really does have the best uniforms.  Either way, Rag & Bone, Burberry Prorsum and Oscar de la Renta were some of the many designers who choose to salute the troops on their Fall/Winter 2010 runways (again).  And since we already have the obligatory military jacket from Spring 2010 and knee-high leather boots, we thought we’d show you a fresh way to tackle army-inspired fashion for fall.  From woolly capes to fitted cargo pants, we tracked down our top 5 pieces of army gear for the season.

1) Drape that Cape – $117.95 at ASOS
In addition to our fascination with the camel coat for Fall 2010, we also can’t wait to slip our arms into a woolly cape this season.  As seen at Yves Saint Laurent, Celine and even Alexander Wang, the cape is quickly becoming the newest coat silhouette for the 2010/2011 winter season.

2) Camo Clutch – $250 by Tory Burch at CUSP
Normally we shy away from anything camouflage, but Tory Burch’s Camo mini bag is the best way to add a shot of camouflage to your outfit without looking like you’re on your way to basic training.

3) To Boot – $129 at Nine West
We’ve been on the hunt for a cute pair of lace up booties for fall and we think Nine West’s military-inspired Donley booties fit the bill.

4) Brass Brigade – $228 by Marc by Marc Jacobs at Shopbop
The only positive side effect of the approaching fall weather is the opportunity to wear warm, cozy knits like Marc by Marc Jacobs’ Kelly sweater, complete with brass button details.

5) Precious Cargo – $198 at Fidelity*
Army green cargo pants by J. Brand and Current/Elliott have been spotted on the legs of Jennifer Aniston, Gwenyth Paltrow, Cameron Diaz and a slew of other Hollywood starlets.  We love Fidelity’s Panther cargo pants in army green for their figure flattering fit.

 * Fidelity cargo pants styled by Carlton Ellis and photographed by Adam Webster.
