We may have missed Holt’s Media Cocktail last night (we blame the traffic and the early start time), but we wouldn’t have missed LG’s Spring 2010 Opening Night Gala for the world. Not only were we curious to check out fashion week’s new home at King and Shaw, but we were curious to see how Robin Kay, president of the FDCC, would hold up on the runway this season. We’re happy to announce that not only did Ms. Kay embody the picture of self-restraint but she was even also able to poke a little fun at herself. And with a beautiful new blond hairdo, we’d say Ms. Kay was quite the classy lady last night. Joining her on stage was Flare editor Lisa Tant who had the lucky job of announcing Lucian Matis as the much-deserved winner of the FDCC Designer Development Fund. Congrats Lucian!
In addition to these celebrations, L’Oreal Paris (lead sponsor of the week), the Stratford Shakespeare Festival and LG Electronics (title sponsor of the week) used the runway to flaunt their stuff. LG took the time to unveil their latest LCD HDTV, the new SL80, to the fashionable crowd in addition to debuting the world premiere of submissions from their very own LG Life’s Good Film Festival. The Stratford Shakespeare Festival mixed fashion and costume for a very love-themed runway show featuring costumes and designs from their costume warehouse, Nada, David Dixon and many more while L’Oreal Paris stole the show with their celebration of 100 years of beauty, a walk down memory lane of both the fashion and beauty choices of the past ten decades. After opening the show with a stunning performance by soprano Ambur Braid, Ms. Braid turns to the crowd and surmises, “One day I hope we’re all worth it!” and thanks to 100 years of L’Oreal Paris, we definitely are!
